You Are What You Bring /Negative Impact Of Internet

“V’Lo Tavi  To’eiva El Baitecha V’Hayita Cheirem Kamohu; Do not bring abomination into your home, and become banned (cheirem) like it (Eikev 7:26).”

Rav Moshe Shternbuch points out the strong conviction and fact portrayed in this pasuk.  The Torah is telling us that when we bring abominations into our home, when we bring the dirt of the entire street, the Hollywood fantasies, the heretical opinions and ideas, we can not say that it does not affect and influence us.

With 100% certainty it will seep into our conscious and subconscious mind until we will be “Cheirem” exactly like these things that we bring into our home.  Rav Shternbuch asks, “Who is the person that can refute the Torah outright?”

Internet is one of the best inventions for us and importance of Internet is huge in our lives. It has become the best source to get knowledge about any aspect. We can’t even imagine the life without Internet. Internet is nothing less than a boon for person related to any field- be it student, employee or anything else. Recent surveys conducted in America estimated that around 10-15 million people are there who are suffering from Internet Addiction Disorder. The count is indeed very big and is increasing every year.

Since anyone can use Internet, so the huge user base of this virtual world contains some naughty minds as well. Such people’s whole purpose of using the web is to disturb others or to loot money from others. The online frauds, crimes are very common to see in daily news.

Well, the negative impacts of Internet do not mean that one should stop using it. The positive points are more than the negative ones. How one person uses Internet depends completely on him/her. No one is forced to use Internet in any particular way. You must try to use it for good purposes only; otherwise, Internet is the biggest curse for you by modern technological world.

It is very important that parents supervise their children when they use the internet.  Please make sure all computers, iPods, and cell phones have filters. Please be more aware of your children access to internet.
