Bar mitzvah at Bait Aaron: preparation, the Torah and the Kiddush
Since 1999, HaRav Moshe Nourollah, Shlita, and his fellow rabbis have prepared boys for their bar mitzvah. Your son can read from the Torah at our Shabbat minyan, with the Kiddush steps away and a simcha hall for up to 300 guests, at 3rd and La Peer near Beverly Hills.
The mitzvah
What it means to become bar mitzvah
At 13, a Jewish boy becomes a bar mitzvah, a son of the mitzvot. From that day he is obligated in the mitzvot, he is counted in a minyan, and he can be called up to the Torah.
Tefillin
From his bar mitzvah, a young man puts on tefillin every weekday morning. Weekday Shacharit at Bait Aaron is at 7:00am, and 6:45am on Rosh Chodesh.
The first aliyah
The Torah is read on Shabbat, Monday, Thursday and Rosh Chodesh. Many families mark the bar mitzvah with an aliyah, and many boys lain from the Torah.
A lifetime of mitzvot
A bar mitzvah is the beginning, not the end. Our Kollel learns every morning and every night, and every boy is welcome to keep learning with us.
Preparation
Bar mitzvah preparation with the Rav
Part of Bait Aaron since 1999
From crash courses in Hebrew and basic Judaism to in-depth Torah study and bar mitzvah preparation, HaRav Moshe Nourollah, Shlita, and his fellow rabbis have helped hundreds of people come closer to their Jewish heritage.
Every level is welcome
Learning with the Rav is open to every level, from the first word of Hebrew to in-depth Gemara. Religious, traditional or just starting, your son is welcome, with friendly, non-judgmental guidance.
Shabbat
Reading the Torah at our Shabbat minyan
The 9:30am minyan

Kiddush in his honor
Sponsor the full Shabbat Kiddush for $1,800, or take a share in the Kiddush for $101, in honor of the bar mitzvah boy. Sponsor the Kiddush.
Planning
How to plan a bar mitzvah in Los Angeles
- Find the Hebrew date. The bar mitzvah is on his 13th Hebrew birthday. A boy born after sunset counts from the next day.
- Start preparing early. Reading Hebrew, the brachot and laining take time, so give your son a comfortable head start.
- Choose the Shabbat. Pick the Shabbat for his aliyah and the Torah reading at the 9:30am minyan.
- Plan the celebration. A Kiddush after davening, or a full simcha in our hall and covered outdoor area for up to 300 guests, with a kitchen for meat and dairy, a grill and a brick pizza oven. See the Simcha Hall.
