Kosher Travel Guide: Kosher Vacations, Hotels, Cruises and Pesach Programs

Last reviewed: October 20, 2026

Planning a kosher vacation, a kosher cruise or a Pesach program for 2027? A short checklist for frum families, so you know what to ask before you book, and how to plan a Shabbat in Los Angeles.

The checklist

What to ask before you book

Hechsher

Who certifies the food, and is a mashgiach on site the whole time? Ask about cholov Yisroel, pas Yisroel and, for Pesach, gebrochts and kitniyot. Ask your own Rav about any hechsher you do not know.

Minyan

Is there a minyan three times a day, a Sefer Torah, and a minyan for Shabbat and Yom Tov? Away from a program, find the nearest shul before you go.

Eruv

Is the hotel or home inside an eruv, and how do you check its status each week? Without one, plan to carry nothing on Shabbat.

Mikvah

Is there a women’s mikvah within walking distance, and how do you book it? Bring dishes to tovel? Ask about a keilim mikvah.

Shabbat elevator and keys

Is there a Shabbat elevator, and can you get a mechanical key or a staff member to open your door? If not, ask for a low floor.

Meals and the kitchen

Are all Shabbat and Yom Tov meals included? In a rental, how will you kasher or cover the kitchen, and where is the nearest kosher market?

Kosher vacations

Kosher vacation rentals

For a family, a whole home can beat a row of hotel rooms: your own kitchen, a big table for Shabbat meals and room for everyone. Villoura rents furnished homes across Los Angeles and Miami, with a concierge who can arrange a private chef, groceries before you land, baby gear and drivers. In Miami, their site lists kosher menus from their chefs. Tell them your Shabbat list, from a plata and a hot water urn to a regular key.

Kosher hotels

Few hotels are kosher throughout. More often a hotel has a certified kosher kitchen for catering, and you stay as a regular guest. In Los Angeles, see kosher hotels in Los Angeles.

Kosher cruises

Kosher cruises run as group programs with their own supervision on a regular ship. Ask the checklist questions above, and ask how cabin doors and elevators work on Shabbat.

Pesach programs 2027

Pesach 2027 begins Wednesday night, April 21, with the first Seder, and ends April 29. Programs fill early. Ask about the hechsher, the Rav of the program, the Sedarim, the minyanim and the walk to the mikvah. Spending Pesach in Los Angeles? See Yom Tov at Bait Aaron and sell your chametz with the Rav.

A Shabbat in LA

Visiting Los Angeles

Bait Aaron is an Orthodox shul at 3rd and La Peer, between Beverly Hills and Cedars-Sinai, with a minyan every day and Kiddush after Shabbat davening. Everyone is welcome.

Questions

How do I choose a kosher vacation or Pesach program?

Ask who gives the hechsher and whether a mashgiach is on site the whole time, whether there is a daily minyan, an eruv, a mikvah within walking distance and a Shabbat elevator, and how the hotel handles key cards on Shabbat and Yom Tov. Ask your own Rav about any hechsher you do not know.

What should I ask before booking a kosher cruise?

Ask who supervises the kitchen, whether there is a minyan on board, and how the ship handles cabin doors, elevators and lights on Shabbat. Plan where you will be for any Shabbat in port.

Is a kosher vacation rental a good option?

For a family, a whole home can be easier than several hotel rooms, with your own kitchen and room for Shabbat meals. Check the walk to shul, the eruv and how you will kasher or cover the kitchen.

Where can frum visitors stay in Los Angeles?

Hotels within walking distance of Bait Aaron near Beverly Hills and Cedars-Sinai, or a whole home through a rental concierge such as Villoura, which works in Los Angeles and Miami.
