Brit milah in Beverly Hills

A mohel for your son’s bris in Beverly Hills

Mazal tov! Bait Aaron sits at 3rd Street and La Peer Drive, where Los Angeles meets Beverly Hills. Rav Yaakov Nourollah, son of HaRav Moshe Nourollah, comes to Beverly Hills homes for a bris, or you can hold it at our shul, a few minutes’ walk from the hotels on Doheny.

Your mohel

A bris with Rav Yaakov Nourollah

No Jewish boy should go without his bris for any reason, least of all cost. If cost is a worry, don’t worry: we will help you find a sponsor, or Rav Yaakov Nourollah will do the bris free. We never let a mitzvah be lost. Religious, traditional or not observant at all, you are welcome. We will explain every step, answer your questions without judgment, and help you plan a bris that feels right for your family.

Choose the place

A bris at home, at a hotel or at the shul

At your home in Beverly Hills

Simple, warm and easy for a new mother. Rav Yaakov comes to you, and the honors, the blessings and the naming happen with your family around you.

At a hotel

Family flying in for the bris often stay near the shul: the Four Seasons on Doheny is about 4 minutes on foot, L’Ermitage about 11 and Hotel Beverly Terrace about 14. Hotels have their own rules for private events and outside food, so ask the hotel early. See kosher hotels near the shul.

At Bait Aaron

Our simcha hall and covered outdoor area hold up to 300 guests, with meat and dairy kitchen facilities. Bring any kosher caterer you like, or let Bait Aaron cater it, from a dairy breakfast to brick-oven pizza.

Timing

The eighth day, in Beverly Hills or anywhere

Counting the days

The bris is on the eighth day of the baby’s life, counting the day he was born. A boy born on a Tuesday has his bris the next Tuesday. The Jewish day starts at sunset, so a baby born on Tuesday evening after sunset counts as born on Wednesday. Tell the mohel the exact time of birth.

When the bris falls on Shabbat

A bris on its proper eighth day takes place even on Shabbat, Yom Tov and Yom Kippur. A delayed bris is not held on those days, and some births, such as a C-section, can change the rules. The mohel will guide you.

Guests staying at the nearby hotels can walk to a Shabbat bris at the shul. See our Shabbat walking directions.

In the morning

A bris is held in the daytime, and many families hold it in the morning, out of eagerness to do the mitzvah as early as possible. On a weekday, Shacharit at the shul is at 7:00am, Sunday through Friday.

When the baby needs more time

Health comes first. If the baby has jaundice or is not well, the bris waits until he is healthy. The mohel examines the baby, and the mohel and your doctor decide together.

Planning

What to arrange this week

  1. Call or text Rav Yaakov with the date and exact time of birth and your address.
  2. Choose the honors: the sandek, who holds the baby during the milah, and the kvatterin and kvatter, who carry him in.
  3. Have the Hebrew name ready, with the father’s Hebrew name.
  4. Book the food. Kosher restaurants, bakeries and caterers near the shul, with the certifying agency, are on our kosher food guide.
  5. Tell out-of-town family about the hotels and the walk, so a Shabbat or early morning bris is easy for them.
Staying for Shabbat? Join us on Shabbat (Saturday) morning for the 9:30am minyan and stay for Kiddush. See Shabbat in Beverly Hills.

Questions parents ask

Do you come to homes in Beverly Hills?

Yes. Rav Yaakov Nourollah travels all over Los Angeles, including Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Pico-Robertson, Hancock Park, Beverlywood, Westwood and Santa Monica.

Can we hold the bris at a Beverly Hills hotel?

Yes, if the hotel allows it. Hotels have their own rules for private events and outside food, so ask the hotel early. Our simcha hall is also a few minutes’ walk from the Four Seasons on Doheny.

Is the bris on Shabbat if our son was born on Shabbat?

A bris on its proper eighth day takes place even on Shabbat, Yom Tov and Yom Kippur. A delayed bris is not held on those days, and some births, such as a C-section, can change the rules. The mohel will guide you.

How much does a mohel cost in Beverly Hills?

Mohel fees in Los Angeles vary. If cost is a worry, don’t worry: we will help you find a sponsor, or Rav Yaakov Nourollah will do the bris free. No family has to skip a bris because of cost.

We are not religious. Can we still have a bris?

Yes, and you are very welcome. Every Jewish boy deserves his bris, whatever your background or level of observance. We will explain each step, and you choose how big or small the day is.

Where can we find kosher catering near Beverly Hills?

Our kosher food guide lists restaurants, bakeries and caterers near the shul with the certifying agency, and Bait Aaron can cater a bris in our hall.

This page is a general guide. Questions about your baby’s health belong with your pediatrician, and the mohel will guide you on halacha and customs. Everything about the ceremony and the blessings is on our mohel and bris page.
